yes we can tell, very easily.
yes, the karat of gold is stamped somewhere on the piece of jewelry. Also expensive jewelry is heavier ie. more gold. Also expensive diamonds are really really white and clear and sparkle. cheaper diamonds look gray and need direct light to twinkle. BTW silver is cheaper than gold….
