Boyfriend got me a diamond necklace for my birthday, returned it, and then got me nothing?

Two weeks ago was my birthday. My boyfriend got me a beautiful diamond necklace and said he was undecided about getting it for me because he didn’t know if it was my taste but that the salesperson talked him into it. It’s a past, present and future necklace and he spend $2000 for it (which he rubbed in).

I went in the bathroom of the restaurant to try it on and boy did it sparkle! However, it really wasn’t my taste, and I really wasn’t going to say anything. I thanked him a lot for it and then he said “if you’re not crazy about it I can get you something else, I wasn’t sure if it was your taste.”
Now me, being the “rational” person said “actually, I would have really preferred diamond studs, but this is lovely.”
He returned the gift last week to Bloomingdales and never got me a replacement birthday gift. I am hurt. When I asked if he was going to get me studs he said not to look a gift horse in the mouth!
He is moving this weekend and I want to help him, but I am so hurt and mad.

yeah? are you really hurt and mad? no no you’re definitely justified in thinking he’s a jerk, i mean what kind of asshole goes out and spends his entire check on buying his girlfriend a $2000 necklace and then gets pissed off when she doesn’t like it and tells him to get her something else? god, I dont know how you put up with him.
