Is a ‘journey diamond necklace’ too ‘intimate’ of a gift for a friend?

diamond necklace
Brain L. asked:

My good friend is turning 18, and I bought her a journey diamond necklace. I am a female and so is she, so I don’t tihnk she’ll get the wrong idea, but since the ‘journey necklaces’ are supposed to mean “with evvery step love grows” is it weird to give that to her?

Don’t give her a necklace, I’m sure her boyfriend is giving her a pearl one every night.

i think it’s kinda too intimate for a “girl” friend. Could you trade it and maybe get her a pendant, locket, etc.. Maybe you could get something that’s cut in half, and you could give one to her, and you keep one. Good luck! You must be a really good friend to be thoughtful!

It’s really sweet. But possibly a bit too much. Are you sure there’s not more behind it then friendship? I probably wouldn’t mind if one of my best friend gave me something nice, jewelry is always cool to get…But if it was a little lesbian-like and I wasn’t lesbian, or not interested I’d be weirded out, I’d take the necklace and you’d be out the money, I’d probably try to return it because it is a little too deep for a girl-friend gift.

Plus, diamonds are expensive, everyone knows this, did you splurge and get the good necklace or did you cut corners and get the crappy one? That makes a difference between sweet (and possibly weird), and tacky and cheap…

Can you take the necklace back or keep it for yourself, maybe for your mom or something for mother’s day?

Buy your friends things that can be returned…and things that don’t scream “relationship status.” A diamond necklace screams relationship. Friendship is a journey…I’d keep that journey for mommy on mother’s day though!

definately! you’ll probably even outdo her parents, unless theyre getting her a brand new c-class mercedes benz of course…or unless youre known as a big balla and money aint a thing.
